The Edge bootstrapper installation can fail if you have network or system restrictions. If Edge runtime is not up to date or if you do not have it on your system, the migration tool will not be able to connect to your environment with browser authentication. If it is not detected, it will download a bootstrapper from Microsoft that will install and keep Edge runtime up to date. The migration tool will look for Edge runtime on your machine. The migration tool uses Microsoft's Edge runtime for browser authentication as of version 17.1 to avoid data vulnerability and security issues. Since Microsoft dropped support for Internet Explorer, they will no longer update it with security patches.
